Etobicoke House

etobicoke-house

Our clients’  house was originally a bungalow, but at some point in the past a second-storey addition was built above the garage. They were looking to expand the second floor across the entire length of the house.  We wanted to find ways to connect the two storeys of the house to each other, and also better connect the house to its site.  We opened the building to the garden and the street with two decks and a new exit to open landscaping.  The offset sloped roof creates an opportunity for clerestory windows which will bring light into the 2nd floor staircase and hallway.  For the cladding, we decided to keep the existing stucco on the ground floor, and proposed wood siding on the second.  The wood siding is acknowledged on the first floor with wooden ‘cutouts’ next to the doors and windows, while on the second floor, stucco cutouts can be seen next to all the openings.
